The early years of development are paramount as the brain is increasing rapidly in size and children are absorbing everything like little human sponges. By using the “whole world” approach to educate our students we are able to cover education from every perspective. As the teacher, I am first in line to be a positive role model for my students. I serve as an example by modeling positive social interactions with my students, their families and other faculty members. Molding solid foundations in my classroom will mean that lessons will be taught for mastery of skills and not for memorization. The “whole child” education approach encompasses every aspect of each student’s life. This method ties family, school and the community together as one unit. This philosophy of teaching focuses on preparing students for future success. Through compassion, self-esteem building and nurturing I plan on promoting positive social, cognitive, physical and emotional development. The definition of “whole child” education is everyone working together for the common good of educating the children.
Lyndsey McIntosh, lovingly referred to as “Miss Lyndsey” by her students, founded The Academy of Learning in 2015 with a mission to build a solid educational foundation for all students. Her personal goal is to provide her children with the foundation that is necessary for them to be successful in future academic endeavors by focusing on the basic domain of the child. As a preschool teacher, creating the “lightbulb effect” when teaching a new concept has always been the desired effect. The goal is to help our children get the foundation of learning that allows them to get ahead of the curve from the beginning of their learning experience which, in most cases, begins in kindergarten. This is derived from a foundation of love, a nurturing spirit and the ability to make learning a fun experience.
Miss Lyndsey loves the Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” and her favorite apple is none other than the McIntosh. She also spends her weekend either at the football field watching her son (Ryley) play quarterback or her daughter (Sahmara) cheerlead.
"I believe that education is more than learning basic skills for job or career. Education helps a student learn how to keep striving, develop morals, character, accountability, and discipline. Those traits are achieved in a safe, open and honest classroom where no judgement will be passed. In my classroom, each student will have the ability to learn which style is best for them. The ultimate goal for my students is to have the ability to achieve a goal and not become complacent. In order to reach this goal, the students and teacher must get to know each other to develop a true relationship for respect. The parents are an important part in the development of a student’s education. With the support of the teacher and parents, the student will be able to achieve these goals. These are tools that are developed when an education is being received. This is what I believe education truly is."
"I love children and teaching them the love of music. I love impacting children every day and being around them. When I teach children songs and I hear them randomly singing them while playing, I know I have made an impact on them. That is why I teach!"
I love the color teal.
"I believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. I will help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us, as the core of what makes life so fascinating."
"I love to show kids that the sky is their limit, and that what they are capable of now is only just the beginning. It is much that can be accomplished in their lifetime if they believe in themselves."
I will be the first of 30 grandchildren to attend college.
